War Wagon

War Wagon is a great classic western featuring both Kirk Douglas and John Wayne. What really sets this film apart from other films in the genre is the plot. It almost seems like a remake of Oceans Eleven instead of the classic western motifs. From start to finish this film is not only action packed and entertaining, but it also has a touch of hilarity to it. The best part of this film is interaction between characters and gives the viewer an easy bridge into the film where they can be immersed into the War Wagon’s world. Truth be told I know this film line by line and it is one of my favorite movies of all time. It is easily in my top 5 westerns and I think you’ll be placing it there too once you watch it.

Bottom Line (Warning Contains Spoilers)

Okay I grew up watching John Wayne, I love his films. War Wagon is a great film. From the great “Mine fell first.” “Mine was taller.” between John Wayne a Kirk Douglas to the Robert Walker Jr. being a drunk and being the explosives man. There are some scenes that are now considered racist but if you can simply accept this a bad part of history the film is really enjoyable. The best part about it is the ending. It looks like the perfect heist has just been pulled, but then hilariously it all goes wrong. It is interesting seeing John Wayne be a good guy by being the bad guy for the sake of justice. I would recommend seeing this movie and I personally would own it as well. It has great replay value.
