Sanctum is an a mixed genre film including action, drama, and disaster film. This film has a very cliche and predictable plot. The acting is widely varied from good to bad not just from one actor to the next but scene to scene for the actor. While the film is meant to keep you on the edge of your seat there are several scenes that are feel really implausible, not improbable, that causes the viewer to question the plot of the film. Overall it is a decent film for a disaster movie, but not something that I will be watching again anytime soon.

Bottom Line (Warning Contains Spoilers)

My issue with this film has to do with all of the “intense” scenes, mostly the idea of mercy killing people while trapped in the cave system. They were done terribly and allows the viewer to completely zone out. While I probably won’t be seeing this film again there are some quite brilliantly shot scenes. For me these were the suspension of the character in water having an almost classic sci-fi feel. They are well executed and a treat to see. However that doesn’t really make up for the rest of the film and honestly there are better cave exploration films out there.
