Repo! The Genetic Opera

Repo! The Genetic Opera is brilliant concept for a film. The mixing of comic book style frames and live action is great and interesting. While the plot of Repo was great there were several issues with the film one being that some of the songs and acting were too over the top and that it was hard to get invested into the characters. The music was great and rather odd, but if you liked Sweeney Todd then you would should give this one a try. For me there was to much gore and graphic images that didn’t need to be in the film, such as tearing out organs whilst mid song, but that’s more of a personal taste. I feel like Repo would have been better as a standard horror film and not a musical. I think it’s worth a watch, but not worth seeing again.

Bottom Line (Warning Contains Spoilers)

The entire idea of this film is great and the plot is decent. However I really just wish it wasn’t in the format of a musical. The idea a man is trying to save his daughter by doing the unthinkable and repossessing peoples organ is definitely different however the format of the film really hurts it.
