ARQ

ARQ is a like a sci-fi Groundhogs Day. It is very hard to repeat the same situation over and over again while keeping it interesting, but this film does a decent job of doing that. However the film does start dragging on near the end. The special effects are good and there are plot twist galore in the film. The plot held my interest for most of ARQ. The character development and acting is rather flat but it does pick up during certain times. Camera angles and cinematography is very…

Let Us Prey

What if you took The Ninth Gate and mixed it with The Traveler? You get something along the lines of Let Us Prey. It is a surreal film to watch since the plot is almost the same as The Traveler because it deals with several slight twists which made the movie interesting. It is really dark and there is a decent amount of blood in the film. If you don’t like a lot of blood in you film I wouldn’t suggest this title. Liam Cunningham is the standout star in…

Mercy

Mercy is a psychopath horror film that is a Netflix original with quite a few twists. The film has some interesting parts like showing multiple perspectives on the same scenario while still keeping the viewers attention with smaller details. Unfortunately it couldn’t save it from a rather tedious and uncaring plot. The reason for this was the characters depth wasn’t there. The left me with a filling that there was so much potential but it was wasted. If you like psychopath movies and want a unique twist on the genre…

Visions

Visions felt like a mix of The Shining and Rosemary’s Baby. It was strangely familiar film with slightly different plot line. I found myself both loving this film and found it boring. It’s boring because the plot was familiar and it made it made it tougher to stay immersed in the film. Several scenes where not shocking and scary because of that. At the same time though it is great because it follows a similar line to these two classic horror films. There is also a cameo appearance of Jim Parsons….

Spectral

Honestly I have to say I really didn’t have high hopes for a Netflix Original sci-fi film. However I was actually amazed by this film. The plot is solid, there is some great depth to the characters and I found myself getting pulled into the film and caring for the characters. What really sold me on this film was the special effects of the film. I was expecting some made for TV film, but they were great. It really helped push this film into a great film not just another…

I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House

This film is interesting and has great depth. The soundtrack is eerie and really helps ties the film together, it reminded me of It Follows. I wanted to love this film but I found myself just liking the film. The reason for that is the pacing of the film was too slow. Several scenes felt like they dragged on due to the slow moves of the characters or long staring sequences just really detract from the overall creepy factor of the film. It’s a good film and if you’ve seen…

Let’s Be Evil

This is one of the most creative and enjoyable first person horror films I’ve ever seen. The special effects on this film are incredible. The plot is original and creepy. This sci-fi horror film is a must watch. There are so many levels to this film that it merits watching again. Let’s Be Evil  is what the first person horror genre needed to bring it new life. I normally hate first person films, but this one is fantastic. The acting is great and helps bring the world and characters to…

Curse Of The Swamp Creature

Curse Of The Swamp Creature is a sci-fi/horror film from 1966. The plot while decent leaves a lot to be desired. For one the movie is fairly slow pace and I found myself laughing more at how ridiculous some scenes are. At times the lines feel forced leaving little attachment to any character. The best part of the movie was the special effects. They are comical and makes the film at little more bearable. If you want a bad sci-fi horror film this is the one for you. Bottom Line…

The Bloody Pit Of Horror

This movie peaked my interest because it looked like a Mario Bava film. I couldn’t have been more wrong. The film has a halfway decent premise, but the execution leaves a lot to be desired. It turns from a murder mystery to fear and torture type of film. The plot was too chaotic to keep my focus. The acting isn’t great, but the lip syncing in the dub version is bad which makes the film enjoyable. This is a D rate horror film and is something I won’t be watching…

Good Guys Wear Black

While the title probably doesn’t sound much like a Chuck Norris action flick Good Guys Wear Black is a great and over the top action movie. The start of the film is rather confusing but it does get better and makes more sense as the plot develops. There are several great action scenes and plot devices that make the film standup through time. There are a few surprises along the way which I was not expecting and it made the film. If you’re looking for a crazy and interesting action…
