The Imitation Game

I was honestly excited to watch The Imitation Game. However even though this movie is great and well done I just couldn’t love it. While the acting was incredible there was too much filler to make the movie feel amazing and something I wanted to watch multiple times. There were several awkward scenes in the film which makes it hard to watch. The Imitation Game felt like a bad version of Rashomon. The story was told out of order and while that can be done it didn’t feel as the same impact…

Back Door To Hell

This film stars Jimmie Rodgers and Jack Nicholson. The film takes place in the Pacific Theater of War World 2. Honestly Back Door To Hell feels incredibly short and everything was quickly thrown together. There are several scenes where the film feels forced and struggles to connect with the viewer. The action scenes are very interesting due to the fast paced nature of the film. They really do cram what should at least be an hour and a half film into 60ish minutes. The dialogue really feels forced and character…

Inglourious Basterds

Well this film is bizarre and it is what you expect from a Tarantino film. There is a great sense of humor and blood with this alternate history WW2 film. The idea of the film is great although the ending does get a bit weird. The idea of the film is much like The Eagle Has Landed except it’s on the opposite the allies are trying to kill Hitler instead of Germans trying to kill Churchill. What makes this film is the hilarious scenes and the sense of humor the…

Jacob’s Ladder

This film is a cult classic and it’s easy to see why. From the start of the film it literally begins to mess with your mind. At which point the entire plot of the film leaves the viewer wondering what is real and what is fake. The acting is great and makes the film even more believable. George Alexander makes an appearance in the film which was a nice surprise to me. I really like movies that make you think and wonder what is real. This is a must see…

Patton

To say that Patton is one of the greatest World War 2 film ever made is an understatement. George C. Scott delivers the performance of a life time as General Patton. The plot envelopes the viewer and does not let go. From the first monologue to end credits this film has such immense gravity the viewer will take something away from this movie. If you have not seen this movie it is a must see and eye opening view inside the life and times of General Patton. Bottom Line (Warning…

The Eagle Has Landed

Combine Micheal Caine, Donald Sutherland, and Jack Higgins and what do you get? You get The Eagle Has Landed an incredible World War 2 fictional story. Filled with the classic Higgins plot points you can expect great twists and turn throughout the film. The acting is superb and helps easily pull the audience in and doesn’t let them go. While this film does have a squeal (The Eagle Has Flow) this is the best one and definitely a must own film. Bottom Line (Warning Contains Spoilers) Okay so this film…

A Bridge To Far

Based on the book this film is a staple of the war movie genre. With a star studded cast including Sean Connery, Micheal Cane, Gene Hackman, Anthony Hopkins, and James Cann the acting is truly incredible. There is enough banter between characters to laugh which is a nice reprieve from the gravity of what happened during this event. From start to finish this is an incredible film that any World War 2 buff will enjoy. Bottom Line (Waring Contains Spoilers) This is a long and heavy movie the movie is…

Casablanca

Casablanca is nothing short of amazing. This film is a classic and there is no question why it is regarded as such. The acting is phenomenal. The plot is wonderful and timeless not to mention there are several lines that are used by multiple films even today. If you have not seen this film do so it is truly a masterpiece. Bottom Line (Warning Contains Spoilers) This film is fantastic. It has everything from the love triangle between Bogart, Bergman, and Rains. To the interesting character of Victor Laszlo, played…

The Sound Of Music

The Sound of Music is called a classic and one of the best films ever made. However to me this movie is terrible, it comes from the time of musicals which are too overdone, showboating, and drag. The plot is actually quite interesting since it is based in WW2 and escaping the Nazis. It is also based on a true story which makes the plot even more incredible. The plot cannot make up for the schmaltzy musical number, dancing, and flow of the movie. If you enjoy musicals then this…
