Meet The Robinsons

After seeing this film and Wall-E it is clear that sci-fi is not the best thing for Disney to make. I understand that the film is meant for kids however the time paradoxes that are created in the movie are truly mind-boggling. That being said there several funny scenes in the film that kind of make up for the bizarre plot. If you’re not a die hard sci-fi fan then this movie is worth a watch. Bottom Line (Warning Contains Spoilers) Honestly this film makes my head hurt. The plot…

Ice Spiders

The film is special and probably not in a good way. I’ll be honest I wasn’t expecting much from this movie and I wasn’t disappointed. The CG is ridiculously placed in not Birdemic bad because the animation is done well but the layering into the film leaves a lot to be desired. The acting is not a bright spot in this film either honestly it’s a funny bad film to watch once but not again. Bottom Line (Warning Contains Spoilers) The plot is best summed up as the government has…

Conquest Of Space

Conquest Of Space is a very dated sci-fi film with a very interesting plot. It is part comedy and part sci-fi. The blend is odd and makes the pacing of the film quite interesting and hard for the viewer to get into. The special effects are terrible with the classic wires showing for the models. The issues with this film is that the major plot point is over during the middle of the film with very little lead up to the rest of the films plot. The characters are very…

Crack In The World

There is a very interesting time period in the history of science fiction. That is the atomic age and apocalyptic scenarios nuclear fall out causes. Crack In The World deals with this plot point. It makes the film cheesy and the science hilariously absurd.  From start to end you can’t help but be pulled into the film. It is one of those greatly bad sci-fi films that makes you fall back in love with the genre. The special effects are lack luster but due to the age of the film…

Masters Of The Universe

Masters Of The Universe oozes 80’s from start to finish. While it might not ever be a great film, it is hilarious and cheesy. Dolph Lundgren, better known for his role in Rocky IV, stars as He-Man and does a good job portraying He-Man. Granted he says very little in the film, but he doesn’t butcher it. The most surprising part of this film is it stars a very young Courtney Cox pre-Friends fame. The film itself is weird because of the sci-fi nature instead of fantasy plot. However, it…

2001: A Space Odyssey

What needs to be said about this movie that hasn’t already been said? The answer is even though the technology in the film is dated the plot, issues, and symbolism are timeless. Kubrick does a phenomenal job of adapting the Aurthur C. Clark novel. The suspense is incredible with brilliant pacing and flow. Howl is even still referenced in modern films which shows the long lasting impact this film had. If there is a downside to this film it would have to be there is one scene that is an…

Invasion Of The Body Snatchers

Combine Donald Sutherland and Leonard Nimoy together and you get a strange but yet interesting film called Invasion Of The Body Snatchers. The plot is really out there and most of the film screams the 70’s. Depending on your tastes this either makes the film enduring or terrible. While this film wasn’t necessarily scary it was a great film. I find the social implications and metaphors of Invasion Of The Body Snatchers to be the best part of the film. I would definitely see this film at least once. Bottom…

Night Of The Blood Beasts

Night of the Blood Beasts is not a great movie if we are comparing it to the classics in this genre. However this film is great and reminded me why I fell in love with this genre. The grainy poorly shot film, black and white, and terrible special effects are amazing. It made me feel like I was 5 watching my first late night horror film. The dialogue is intellectual and bad all at the same time. The science is outrageous, and the special effects are terrible, but Night of…
