The Most Dangerous Game

This classic film based on the novel of the same name is an adventure/action film with a rather iconic plot. To say this film will have you on the edge of your seat  is an over-statement, but don’t let that discourage you from seeing it. The plot is well paced and while short it still is better than most films produced today. There are some unbelievable scenes in the film, but that is what makes it great. It is stereotypical with the strong male lead and the sinister villain which…

Doctor Strange

Doctor Strange was just that strange. As we come to expect from most Marvel films the special effects and computer generated graphics are incredible and visually a joy to watch. I wanted to love this film. I like the casting of Benedict Cumberbatch and the character whom the film is based on. The fight scenes looked amazing but those things alone couldn’t make me love the movie. The plot pacing is painful because several scenes release great tension in favor of random comedic effects. For an extremely serious character development…

Suicide Squad

Well to say that Suicide Squad was a disappointment would be an understatement. Honestly it has nothing to do with the acting. The acting quality and caliber of actors were great. The special effects were also amazing. The only thing that killed this movie and made it terrible was the plot and editing of the film. There was too much backstory and not enough story to make the movie worth watching. Several other things made it terrible such as the underdevelopment of characters and leaving them for pure comical purposes….

Stargate

Stargate is a giant in the science fiction world and lead to several spin off shows on TV. Is the praise the film receives deserved? I think the answer is yes.  The acting is great for the most part. The plot is great and at times feels like a UFO theorist dream, but that is what makes it amazing is out outlandish and over the top it is. The most surprising factor to me was the special effects I was expecting poor animation and instead was greeted by a visually…

Way Of The Dragon

Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris star in this kung-fu gem. Honestly just watching Chuck Norris fight Bruce Lee is the best part of the film. The rest of the film really felt like filler. While it was partially comical most of it was boring or lackluster. The only reason I kept watching the film was to see the aforementioned fight. If you are looking for a film that is good in the background and doesn’t require dedicated focus Way of the Dragon is a good film for it. Bottom Line…

The Admiral

This Netherland film about one of its greatest naval heroes Michiel de Ruyter is fantastic. Special effects in the film is great and helped immerse me into the movie. The acting was incredible and the plot gave the characters depth. That made every scene in the film exciting. They also paid close attention to the little details like having people in the background using fire to bend the wood for the ship making. The Admiral did a great job keeping me hooked from the dramatic moments to the fast paced…

Spectral

Honestly I have to say I really didn’t have high hopes for a Netflix Original sci-fi film. However I was actually amazed by this film. The plot is solid, there is some great depth to the characters and I found myself getting pulled into the film and caring for the characters. What really sold me on this film was the special effects of the film. I was expecting some made for TV film, but they were great. It really helped push this film into a great film not just another…

Good Guys Wear Black

While the title probably doesn’t sound much like a Chuck Norris action flick Good Guys Wear Black is a great and over the top action movie. The start of the film is rather confusing but it does get better and makes more sense as the plot develops. There are several great action scenes and plot devices that make the film standup through time. There are a few surprises along the way which I was not expecting and it made the film. If you’re looking for a crazy and interesting action…

American Ninja

American Ninja is a crazy 1980’s action film. The film itself is rather ridiculous and if you couldn’t tell by now it’s not a great film. However, there are several scenes and actions that makes it terribly great. The film might have been a serious film when it was created but it’s so over the top and absurd. I’m not saying that is a bad thing, but rather it really makes the film great to watch and have a laugh. The main character “Joe” (Michael Dudikoff) has about 20 lines…

The Core

The Core is one of those disaster movies where most of the film relies on special effects and CG to make it good. While at the time of the films release the special effects would be amazing however now it severely hampers its longevity. Even now the film is dated and painful to get through. The acting is both a mix of terrible and great causing significant lulls which are hard to power through the film. Another issue is the technology is fairly outdated making the film feel older than…
